Construction on the Severance Middle addition project will begin over summer break and is anticipated to continue through summer 2025. Mobilization has already begun at various points on campus grounds outside, and actual work will kick off on May 23.
Students, staff, and campus visitors may notice:
-
Temporary walls to contain interior construction.
-
Fencing to delineate exterior construction areas.
-
New routing for student walkways.
-
The entire southern parking lot utilized for contractor parking, construction equipment and materials.
-
Signage indicating construction zones and new pathways.
The construction team has worked and will continue to work with school administration and the Safety & Security Department to ensure minimal impacts, as well as the safety of our students and staff. Safety plans have been updated to reflect these temporary changes, and communicated with local law enforcement and first responders. The project will be completed in multiple phases. We will continue to provide updates throughout the construction period as things shift with each phase.
The Severance Middle addition is a planned expansion to the campus, adding 51,100 sq. ft. and bringing the total school capacity to 900 students. The addition will include an auxiliary gymnasium and weight room, cafeteria expansion, a two-story learning community, a design lab, remodel of the band / vocal areas, remodel and expansion of the classroom collaboration spaces, library renovation to become the innovation commons and maker space, and the creation of an upper-level corridor in the classroom wing to improve student flow.
