EDUCATE: Achieve academic proficiency and Character education to ensure student success
We believe that our students need both Academic Proficiency and Life Skills in order to educate the whole child. This is encompassed in the work of our Graduate Profile, where every grade level is oriented towards the five skills we look for our graduates to embody: Create, Evaluate, Relate, Advocate, and Participate. All staff support students in this work, preparing them for the world beyond our walls.
We will accomplish this priority by:
1. Ensuring a guaranteed and viable curriculum, including intervention and advanced
- In Progress: Provided curriculum training and preparation for 2nd semester pilots in Math and Science. Work is underway on common assessments for 6 - 12 Social Studies. Identified "The Colorado Story" as a 4th-grade Social Studies resource. Implemented Digital Citizenship, aligned with Character Counts and library information literacy skills, in all elementary schools. Implementation is underway on elementary literacy curriculum guidance.
2. Using high impact instructional strategies in every classroom
- In Progress: Deepened the "Science of Learning" work begun in Quarter 1 through targeted sessions with administrators and sessions at the November Professional Learning Day. Provided professional learning for structured literacy implementation in grades 3 - 5.
3. Providing ongoing training and professional learning for staff
- In Progress: All English Language Development teachers attended the Colorado Teachers of English as a Second or Other Language conference. Ongoing professional learning continued through the November 7 district Professional Learning Day and expanded KickUp course offerings. The first Paraprofessional Learning Day was held on October 3.
4. Fully implement character education
- In Progress: Continue to review current practices and resources across all schools. Staff are assessing the connections and integration of character education into school PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) systems, counselor supported curriculum, and building climate / culture programs.
We will measure success through:
- Proficiency on the CMAS and PSAT / SAT assessments
