What is credit recovery?
Credit recovery refers to a student retaking a course they previously failed, allowing them to earn academic credit toward graduation. Students may not enroll in courses for credit recovery as a preemptive or precautionary measure to earn credit. Students may not enroll in credit recovery if they withdrew from the class for any reason, WF or NG. Additionally, the credit recovery program will not replace the grade on the transcript for previously failed courses, but it will show that your student has completed the necessary credits for graduation.
Does my student need credit recovery?
The Weld RE-4 program is for students who have failed at least one semester of a course and need to recover the credit for graduation requirements. Please note that these courses are not NCAA-approved. If your student’s goal is to compete in NCAA sports during post-secondary studies, please have them meet with their school counselor for other options.
How do courses work?
Each semester of a school-year class is considered a “course” in the credit recovery program.
Examples:
- Student 1 passed the first semester of a class (60% or higher) but did not pass the second semester. This student will need one “course” to recover the second semester.
- Student 2 did not pass their course in the first or second semester. This student will need two “courses” to recover the full year of class.
Options:
- Full Course: Includes all course content, exams, and mentoring throughout the duration of the quarter. Successful course completion consists of the following: 1. All coursework completed. 2. Receive a score of 60% or higher on each assignment, quiz, etc. 3. Submit a testing request form.
- Final Exam-Only: Includes only the Final Exam. ONE opportunity to pass the Final Exam with a 60% or better will be provided for students who received a classroom grade of 50%-59.49%. Course credit and the grade earned will be awarded upon successful completion. If unsuccessful, students must complete the entire course.
- Students have the option to mix and match between full course and exam-only. For instance, if a student needs two credit recovery courses, they may choose the full course option for one course and the exam-only option for another course.
Once a student has completed registration and all fees have been paid in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, courses and/or exams will be unlocked in Edmentum’s online learning platform. The course will remain open only during the duration of the session’s start and end dates (i.e., quarter 2, quarter 3, etc.).
A student may enroll in one course at a time during credit recovery sessions. Additional courses can be added, one at a time, after the initial course has been completed successfully. Credit is recovered when a student completes 100% of coursework (including all exams) with a 60% or higher on each unit exam and receives a 60% or higher on the final exam of the course.
How do I access courses?
Students will receive access information via email from credit.recovery@weldre4.org. However, students will be not able to access courses until the registration window closes, courses have been verified by counselors, all fees have been paid, and orientation has been completed.
NOTE: Unfortunately, the verification process for courses, fees, etc., is not automated. Therefore, there is often a 24-48 hour waiting period prior to being able to access the course in the Edmentum system, even when all requirements have been met.
Will my child need to log in at specific times or log a certain number of hours per week?
This credit recovery program is designed to be flexible and match the needs of students. All sessions (quarter 2, quarter 3, etc.) will have a start and end date for students to work in their course. As long as courses are completed during that time, your student can work at a personalized pace.
A mentor teacher will be in touch with your student every week, including progress checks sent to a parent/guardian. The goal is to maintain a manageable, yet consistent, work pace as best as possible for each student.
What are the associated fees?
Standard Fees:
- $100 for Each Course, each session. Includes all course content, exams, and mentoring throughout the duration of the quarter.
- Exam-Only: $100 Each Course. Includes only the Final Exam. ONE opportunity to pass the Final Exam with a 60% or better will be provided. Course credit will be awarded upon successful completion. If unsuccessful, students must complete the entire course.
Students have the option to mix and match between full course and exam-only. For instance, if a student needs to take credit recovery courses, they may choose the full course option for one course and the exam-only option for another course.
Carry Over: If students paid for a course in the immediate previous Credit Recovery session and completed at least 80% of the course material, they will be charged a discounted rate of $25 to finish. This offer applies only to students who began the course in the most recent, immediately preceding session and is valid for one session of carryover.
Discounts: Upon verification, students eligible for free or reduced lunch will receive a discounted rate of $70 per course per session.
Scholarship: Students can apply for a scholarship during the registration process. The scholarship amount is $50; the remainder of the fee must be paid before the course opens. The scholarship can only be awarded to a student once during a school year. The scholarship application must be filled out by the student, and questions must be answered in the student’s own words.
Payments: Payments are due prior to the start of each quarterly session. Access to all Edmentum testing and coursework will not be granted until payment has been received in full.
Refunds: Refunds will not be available once courses have started.
Dropped: Students will be removed from the session entirely if fees are not paid in full within two weeks of the session opening.
What if my student completes all initially requested courses but needs more?
If your student successfully completes the initial course during a given credit recovery session, they may request an additional course through their mentor teacher. Credit Recovery sessions are typically offered during Quarter 2, Quarter 3, Quarter 4, and summer.
How can I enroll my student?
For Quarterly Credit Recovery Sessions, please complete the Weld RE-4 Credit Recovery Registration form prior to the assigned deadline.
What happens if my student does not finish their coursework?
Completed credit recovery course grades and credits are sent to the school Registrar. All accounts are closed and become inaccessible once completed.
Carry-over: A discounted fee of $25 per course will be charged if a student has completed at least 80% of the coursework and needs to finish a course in the immediate next session of credit recovery.
If students are unable to complete the course after the extension, full fees will be applied to rejoin the next session.
What are the technical requirements for online coursework?
Your student will need access to a computer with an internet connection. There will be limited technology or curriculum support from the Weld RE-4 School District. If a technology problem arises, please have your student contact their mentor teacher. This teacher will serve as their liaison when requesting help from the Weld RE-4 Technology Department.
What if we register and pay all the fees, but an unforeseeable circumstance or emergency arises?
If there is a reason why your student cannot participate in a Credit Recovery session after registration, please have them contact the Weld RE-4 Credit Recovery Team at credit.recovery@weldre4.org or Parent Square.
How will I be able to track my student’s Edmentum progress?
Your student’s mentor teacher will send home weekly progress updates throughout the term. They are also available via their contact email. When your student begins courses, you will be given access to Edmentum’s Sensei. This allows you to track your student’s progress throughout the session.
Can my student use Edmentum coursework to get ahead on graduation-required credits, not just credit recovery?
No. The Weld RE-4 Edmentum program is currently for credit recovery only. Edmentum is not set up to be used as original instruction. Please speak with your student’s school counselor for other options.
Can other teachers assist my student with their Edmentum courses?
Mentor teachers will be available to support your student, set goals, and stay on track throughout the term. These teachers have a variety of content specialties and may not be able to assist with content-specific questions directly. All other Weld RE-4 staff members will not be available during summer terms and have limited school-year availability.
Can students who are not Weld RE-4 students complete credit recovery for other school districts, even though they live within the district boundaries?
No, the Weld RE-4 Edmentum program is for those students currently enrolled in a Weld RE-4 school.
If my students' courses are not transcribed on their transcripts, whom should I contact?
Please contact the school Registrar with transcript questions.
What grade will be transcribed on my student's transcript?
Your student’s original course grade will remain on their transcript. All Edmentum courses will be recorded with the letter grade earned from Weld RE-4 Credit Recovery. For example, if a student earned a failing grade in 9th Grade Literature and Composition, that grade will appear in addition to the grade earned in 9th Grade Literature and Composition in Weld RE-4 Credit Recovery.
If my student is failing mid-semester (quarter), can they drop the failing course and do credit recovery at school instead?
Please visit with your school counselor to discuss in-classroom drop-fails. These decisions are made at the school level with the input from your counselor and administration. Students may not enroll in credit recovery if they withdrew from the class for any reason at any time during the semester (i.e., WF or NG).
My student receives services through an IEP or 504; will their accommodations be maintained with credit recovery?
All accommodations that are available through this remote Edmentum option can be discussed with you by their school service provider to determine if this is the best option for your student.
My students' Edmentum course(s) are not the same as the ones they failed in the classroom. Why is that? Is my student enrolled in the correct class?
The courses in Edmentum come from an external provider and may not have the exact titles or exact curriculum content as the class taken during the regular school year. Courses in Edmentum are aligned to state standards and edited within the district to be a close approximation of the essential content and skills to help your student progress in the future.
Can we arrange payment options?
Please contact adele.lindnichols@weldre4.org.
My student has finished all of the coursework and needs to take the end-of-course Final Exam. What are the next steps?
Reach out to the Mentor teacher and/or complete the Edmentum Final Testing Request form to schedule a time to complete the final exam.
- The end-of-course Final Exam should be completed in person with the mentor teacher.
- In rare circumstances, the end-of-course Final Exam can be completed in a virtual setting. The mentor teacher and the Credit Recovery Coordinator will determine if a virtual testing environment will be approved.
If I have been granted a virtual end-of-course Final Exam test setting, what does virtual testing look like?
- When you are ready to test, complete the Edmentum Final Testing Request form.
- Secure testing procedures:
- You will login to a Google Meet testing room (the link will be emailed to you)
- Once you arrive, your proctor will unlock your test. You will remain in the Google Meet for your exam.
- The exam will be open for 75 minutes. If you do not use all of the time, you may inform your proctor and leave the Google Meet.
