Exceptional Student Services Department
In the Exceptional Student Services Department, we strive to provide a continuum of services for all learners within our schools.
We work towards this through three main goals in partnership with our families:
Creation of Inclusive Environments — Our students are general education students first; some happen to have additional wrap-around services in varying degrees to help them access and achieve an education.
Closing of Achievement Gaps — We focus our instructional targets to close achievement gaps, designing Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals to help students "catch up." While not all students may achieve this goal, we believe in setting high expectations and designing instruction to leverage the attainment of an education, not just access to it.
Preparing Students for the Workforce — Our students leave school post-secondary education and / or workforce ready. This means early and frequent conversations about student goals for life after high school, as well as honest and serious conversations about readiness for the first step into those environments.
We serve our students through the following programs and service areas.
- Gifted Education
- Special Education (IEP services)
- Section 504 Services
- Preschool Program
- WEST Transition Program
- School to Work Alliance Program
- Health Services Program
