Planning Ahead

During the year, students have access to the Academic Plan in their Student Campus where they can plan out courses for all four years of high school. Access to this is turned off over the summer while schedules are being created. Counselors and advisory teachers will assist students in choosing their courses for the upcoming year in the spring semester of each year. Transfer students are subject to Weld RE-4 high school graduation requirements.

It is important for students to seek the help of their families, teachers, counselors, and administrators in planning an educational program to fit their needs. Each student should strive to get the best preparation out of their time in high school in order to be successful in the world beyond. Online Coursework

At the time of this publication, Weld RE-4 School District collaborates with Colorado Digital Learning Systems (CDLS) and Brigham Young University's (BYU) Independent Study Program to provide affordable, high quality, standards-based supplemental online coursework for schools and students needing advanced courses, curriculum enhancement and/or to resolve scheduling conflicts.

CDLS courses are rigorous, aligned with Colorado Model Content Standards and conducted fully online. All CDLS courses are taught by highly-qualified Colorado-licensed teachers. Students can access courses 24/7, and can work from home, school, or anywhere they find internet access! CDLS coursework may be accessible if funding is available. BYU courses are conducted fully online through both teacher-lead and student-paced formats. Students must seek approval for their desired course through their counselor prior to registration. Students may take online classes if:

  • Space is available
  • The class is not offered at a Weld RE-4 High School or if there is a scheduling conflict for the student
  • The class is in line with the student’s Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)

Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis after application through the counseling department and approval by the Weld RE-4 Department of Instruction. Students must meet with a counselor to determine if CDLS or BYU coursework is available and a viable option for their situation.
