A Standard Response Protocol (SRP) provides a common language and training to all of our schools, in tandem with districts across the country.
As you may hear from your student, our schools conduct drills regularly under the Standard Response Protocol to ensure that staff and students are well-versed in emergency procedures. We use the same response language across all emergency types:
- Hold: When the hallways need kept clear of occupants and staff
- Secure: Threat or hazard outside of the school building
- Lockdown: Threat or hazard inside the school building
- Evacuate: Move students and staff from one location to another
- Shelter: Personal protection is necessary (i.e., tornado, hazmat, etc.)
We utilize simple directions for students and staff, and work during drills to establish the roles and responsibilities during emergency or crisis situations.
In an Emergency
When an SRP is activated due to an emergency that impacts your students' school, we will inform you via email, text, and / or voice message. You will not be notified in the case of a drill or a false alarm. Please ensure that you are registered to receive alerts in Infinite Campus.
We will provide as much information as we can in the message, but we encourage you to check our homepage for the most up-to-date information. We understand that in these situations you may receive information directly from your student. In order to ensure the dissemination of accurate information, we ask that you only share or repost official information provided by us or other official agencies (police, fire, or other governmental agency).
Emergency situations are highly controlled. Police and school officials will work together and coordinate efforts that follow predetermined and practiced procedures. For many parents, your first instinct will be to come to the school to check on your child or take them home. You should only attempt to arrive at the school (or at a reunification site) after you have received communication that the alert has been canceled or, in the event of reunification, when you have been notified of where and when to pick up your student(s).
We expect that when an emergency arises, school and district phone lines will be overwhelmed and we will be unable to answer every call. A single alert will be applied to schools located on the same campus. If one school goes into secure status, the other will go into secure status, as well.
Reunification
Circumstances may occur at the school that require parents to pick up their students in a formalized, controlled release. The process of controlled release is called a reunification and may or may not be at your students' school. Parents will be informed via a text or voice message. Students will only be released to parents / guardians or to individuals previously identified as a student’s emergency contact. In the case of a reunification, parents / guardians are asked to bring identification to the check-in area for verification prior to the release of a student. Learn More
