The high school Advisory program promotes meaningful relationships between students and staff. Advisory will provide individualized instruction and support to increase student success by creating a sense of belonging and community. Lessons will integrate the requirements of Colorado’s Senate Bill 09-256, which requires students to develop an ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan). This plan will assist students in developing and maintaining a personalized postsecondary plan. Each year students will have a series of guided lessons that will assist them in meeting the yearly ICAP requirements for graduation. Students must complete 0.5 credits of Advisory in order to graduate. Explore the ICAP options available in Weld RE-4.
Lessons will include but are not limited to: college and career exploration, study skills, digital citizenship, problem solving, organization, communication and collaboration, resiliency, academic and personal goal setting, time management, stress management, service projects, preparing for required assessments and self-advocacy. Development of the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship will also be a key focus of this course. Overall, Advisory will help students craft their own pathway and will equip students with a toolbox of transferable skills that are differentiated at each grade level.
Advisory is a required, multi-year class that assists students in completing their ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) for graduation, as well as helping students in the areas of academics, transition, and Colorado Essential Skills. Students need to complete .5 credit in Advisory as a graduation requirement.
