Get Ready for School - Top Five Things for Parents to Know

School begins next week — August 14 for transition-year students and August 15 for all other grades. Here are five things every parent should know to get ready for the start of the school year.

1. Safety All visitors must sign in at the front office before accessing the school and are checked via the RAPTOR system. Regular volunteers go through a more in-depth background check prior to their volunteer time. Weld RE-4 staff members, as well as Windsor High School and Severance High School students, are required to wear an ID card. The card must be in a visible location above the waist, worn on a lanyard or a badge holder clipped to the shirt.

2. School Meals Our district will continue to participate in the Healthy School Meals for All Program, which allows all enrolled students to receive one free breakfast and lunch per day at no cost during the 2024 - 2025 school year. A la carte options will continue to be offered for additional purchase through LINQ ConnectMeal menus can be found online. We encourage families to complete the Free and Reduced Meal Application to qualify for reduced / waived class fees.

3. Transportation We provide transportation to all resident elementary students who live beyond a one-mile radius from their assigned school, to all resident middle school students who live beyond a one and one-half-mile radius from their assigned school, and to all resident high school students who live beyond a two-mile radius of their assigned school. Bus riders will receive a message soon from the Transportation Department.

4. Attendance Research indicates that attendance has a significant impact on learning. We would ask your help in ensuring that your child is at school on time and ready to learn. If you need to excuse your child from school, please contact the school’s front office / attendance line (see the school’s website) or log in to Infinite Campus’ “Campus Parent” to request the absence. To submit an absence select "More" in the navigation and "Absence Requests."

5. Communication ParentSquare is our messaging platform for every school and activity. Through ParentSquare, you will have two-way communication with staff, sign forms / permission slips, sign up for various events, and more. Download the app (App Store | Google Play) or sign in via your browser.
