Volunteers are a valued extension of our team, helping support our students and teachers in the important work of educating our children.

Volunteer needs vary from school to school, ranging from field trip chaperones to one-on-one student assistance, and vision / hearing screenings to parent committees. Our school community most certainly benefits from our volunteer corps through individualized support, expanded learning opportunities, and caring mentors. We’ve also heard that our volunteers …

  • Feel passionate and satisfied by making a difference in a child’s life
  • Increase their connection and engagement with the community, expanding their network
  • Use the experience to enhance their resumes and further their careers
  • Gain a first-hand, behind-the-scenes understanding of public education

How to Volunteer

Apply to volunteer (English)|Apply to volunteer (Espanol)

To ensure the safety of our staff and students, we ask that all volunteers complete an application and background check that includes a search of the national criminal database, sex offender list, and terrorist watchlist. Standard volunteers should select all of the appropriate "functions" they see fit within the application. A standard volunteer background check will be $6.

Volunteer coaches, work-base learning supervisors, and contractors / outside consultants must complete a more stringent background check. Checking these "functions" in the application will apply a cost of $18 (volunteer coaches and work-based learning supervisors) and $32 (contractors / outside consultants).

Once an account has been created and the application has been approved, you will be able to login and review volunteer opportunities at your selected schools. Volunteers must register and be approved prior to engaging in any volunteer activity. Once you are approved, an email will be sent to you notifying you of the approval and your user account information.

Guidelines for Success

When volunteering, please observe the following guidelines:

  • All visitors and volunteers must check in at the office during school hours.
  • Cell phones need to be turned off while in the classroom.
  • Younger children should not accompany you if you are staying in the classroom for any length of time.
  • While in classrooms, you may observe the unique behaviors of individual children. Please respect the privacy and rights of each child by not sharing stories about individual students in the community.
What is the difference between a visitor and a volunteer?

Volunteers are involved on a more regular and ongoing basis and may be alone with students. Visitors typically do not work with students unsupervised and are not engaging with regular and ongoing volunteer activities. Visitors will be screened upon entry to any school buildings; we ask that all visitors provide a state issued ID at check in. The background check for visitors includes the sex offender list.
