The safety of Weld RE-4 students is our greatest priority. We’d like to take this opportunity at the start of the school year to remind you about existing safety procedures and inform you about how the school district will communicate with you in the event that a Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is activated at your child’s school.*

Staff in our district are trained to deal with potentially dangerous situations. As you may hear from your student, our schools practice SRP drills regularly to ensure that staff and students are well-versed in emergency procedures. Going forward, when an SRP is activated due to an emergency that impacts your student’s school, we will be informing you via a text or voice message. You will not be notified in the case of a drill or a false alarm. We will provide as much information as we can in the message, but we encourage you to check our website for the most up-to-date information. We expect that when an emergency arises, school and district phone lines will be overwhelmed and we will be unable to answer every call.

In anticipation of voice and text alerts, please ensure that you are registered to receive alerts in Infinite Campus (IC) and familiarize yourself with the SRP actions and instructions defined on reverse side/page below.

It is important that you remain calm when you receive an alert. These situations are highly controlled. Police and school officials will be working together and coordinating efforts that follow predetermined and practiced procedures.

For many parents, your first instinct will be to come to the school to check on your child or take him or her home. You should only attempt to arrive at the school (or at a reunification site) after you have received communication that the alert has been canceled or, in the event of reunification, when you have been notified of where and when to pick up your student(s).

We understand that in these situations you may receive information directly from your student. In order to ensure the dissemination of accurate information, we ask that you only share or repost official information provided by the school district or other official agencies (Windsor police, fire, or town; Weld County Sheriff; or the Town of Severance) posted online or on social media.

Thank you for your help in our efforts to keep all Weld RE-4 students and staff safe. We encourage you to speak with your school principal about any questions you have regarding safety procedures.

A single alert will be applied to schools located on the same campus--Windsor Middle School and Windsor HIgh School, as well as Tozer Primary School and Mountain View Elementary School. For example, if one school goes into lockout, the other will go into lockout as well.
