A Monthly Note from Superintendent Scallon

September 30, 2024

Dear Weld RE-4 Families,

As we wrap up September, I want to take a moment to reflect on the exciting progress happening across our district.
Ridgeline Middle SchoolOn September 16, the Board of Education voted to approve our focus group’s recommendations for our new middle school’s name, colors, and mascot. I am pleased to introduce Ridgeline Middle School, the future home of the Dragons! As a symbol of unity between our district’s two high schools, Ridgeline will use Windsor Maroon and Severance Silver as its colors.
2022 Bond Additional ProjectsEarlier this month, our COO Michael McCullar sent a message to families outlining important updates from our Bond Oversight Committee. With the contingency funds from the 2022 Bond measure, we are able to fund additional projects across the district. Thanks to cost savings and careful financial management, these funds will support critical upgrades, including HVAC repairs, roofing replacements, accessibility improvements, and security enhancements. We are also investing in modernizing Windsor Middle School to bring it up to the standards of our newer middle schools and are preparing for an expansion of the District Office to better serve our growing student population. For more information, visit our Bond website.
Attendance Awareness MonthSeptember is Attendance Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the role school attendance has on learning. We know that attendance at school has a significant impact on student success. When a student is chronically absent, they are at an increased risk of failing classes or dropping out of school altogether. Chronic absenteeism impacts all students — no matter their age. Students who miss just two days a month for any reason are more likely to not read at grade level, and more likely to not graduate. If your child struggles with attendance, please reach out to your school for resources and support. We look forward to partnering with you to make sure your child has the opportunity to learn and thrive at our schools.
Thank you for your continued commitment to provide our students the best learning environments and opportunities. I’m grateful for your ongoing support in ensuring all students in Weld RE-4 thrive.
With Gratitude,

Michelle Scallon Superintendent
