Child Find

Child Find is part of our special education programming and acts as a screening and evaluation resource for families with children in the district. We provide free screenings and evaluations for children ages 3 - 5 who are suspected of having developmental delay(s) and / or disabilit(ies) that may impact their education.

The Child Find team is made up of multi-disciplinary specialists, including an early childhood special educator, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, school psychologist, and others, as needed

Screening / Evaluation Process

If you have concerns about your child's development, contact Child Find Coordinator Jordana Moreno at 970-686-8423 to begin the screening and / or evaluation process. Evaluations address the areas of concern for each child and are conducted in several areas, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Early concepts (birth - 5)
  • Educational skills (P - 12)
  • Cognitive functioning
  • Speech-language skills
  • Physical development
  • Social-emotional functioning
  • Vision and hearing screening

Our process includes:

  1. History and Questionnaire — Our Child Find Coordinator will send you a developmental history form and Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) to complete, as well as a link to upload video(s) of your child.

  2. Screening — The team will review the information to screen for developmental concerns and decide whether an evaluation is appropriate. We will contact you to either schedule an evaluation, or explain what was found in the screening and provide community resources.

  3. Evaluation and Report — If an evaluation is conducted, we'll complete a comprehensive report, and hold an eligibility meeting with you to determine if your child is eligible to receive special education services in the preschool program.

Early Intervention

Children ages 0 - 3 who demonstrate a significant delay in development may be eligible for Early Intervention services through Early Intervention Colorado. Contact GetStartedwithEI@state.co.us. Children who are currently receiving Early Intervention services will be referred to Child Find when they are 2 years, 6 months to coordinate potential eligibility for preschool when they turn 3 years old.
