About Karen Trusler

Why I am running for District B RE-4 Board of Education:

RE-4 is my home. I am passionate about this community and have a desire to be able to serve. As a former superintendent, I was fortunate to have dedicated board directors, and my hope is to serve in the same manner. My eleven years as a superintendent provided me with knowledge of policy, the critical partnership of a superintendent and school board, and a solid understanding of a board member’s role and responsibilities. I am able to commit the time and effort needed. I love to celebrate successes, yet I also welcome the challenges and deep conversations which will also lead to more successes.

I believe that the focus in education should always be what is in the best interest of the students. Afterall, our children only make up about 20% of the population, yet they are 100% of the future. One size does not fit all students and I believe that school choice and options for families are critical. Investing in our educators is also important to recruit and retain outstanding staff. Being a wise steward of funding and resources is imperative for all stakeholders. RE-4 has a solid reputation as a quality district for student success. In order to continue and improve this quality the board must listen to the needs of the community, and involve the community as integral partners.
